Galasso's Fire
08/13/2018On August 13, 2018 at approximately 10:30pm a truck, towing a portable water tank for Haz-Mat cleanup at the old Porcelain, lost its brakes while driving down the Everittstown Rd hill. Unable to stop, the truck barreled down Race St around the turn to Bridge St and then attempted to turn south down Trenton Ave. Going too fast to make the turn, the truck crashed into what was Galasso's Pizzeria. The truck with nearly two full diesel tanks, managed to crash right through the electrical supply to the building igniting almost immediately into fire. A crowd of onlookers quickly gathered all eager to take photos and record video without dialing 911. A call to 911 was eventually placed by our own Mayor to alert the fire department.
Fortunately the residents of the apartment above the pizzeria were able to quickly evacuate and the truck driver was not significantly harmed. The building was a total loss and had to be demolished to finish extinguishing the fire. The adjacent building, home to the Frenchtown Cafe, was also significantly damaged. The building required an almost complete renovation, work that took until October of 2019 to complete.
